Love the language that tells your story.
My purpose is to help you to identify, nurture, and believe in your voice...even if you struggle with the writing process.
ENGLISH AND CREATIVE WRITING TUTORING
SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES 7-12
Does your teenager often leave their English homework until the end of the night, dreading the investment of energy and time it takes?
Does your teenager struggle to understand their English teacher’s expectations for thorough, detailed, well-organized writing?
Does your teenager wish they could “decode” the “hidden meanings” in a short story, novel, or play?
If you want to see your teenager approach each writing adventure with confidence, creativity, and conviction, please consider reaching out to me at Liz Mastrangelo Writing Coach.
When I tutor a middle school or high school student, I focus on building both their skills and their spirit. Young people can’t flourish academically if they doubt their capabilities or the value of their voice. I strive to identify their natural gifts – clever wit? grammatical prowess? analytical talent? stylistic flair? – and invite them to apply those gifts to their writing. I urge them to push beyond what they think are their intellectual boundaries, generously compliment their efforts, and teach them how to blend their insights with the structure of writing conventions.
Writing is an art necessary for communicating, connecting, persuading, and pursuing. A student might never have the chance at a cocktail party to discuss the essay they wrote on Reverend Dimmesdale’s moral confusion in The Scarlet Letter. However, in order to get what they want in life, they will need to know…
- how to articulate their ideas and feelings clearly and convincingly,
- how to evoke attention and emotion in others with the power of their words,
- and how to tell stories in an order that makes sense to listeners and readers.
Writing well allows us to forge and sustain relationships, to move people, to indulge in self-expression, to propel ourselves forward in the world…and to make a difference in it.
I understand that grades are important to students and to their parents, too. Earning an A in English requires diligent, precise work. I believe that if a student takes on the challenge of transforming themselves into a stronger writer because they can see the organic value in that mission, good grades will follow.
So if you are ready to reduce the stress of middle or high school English class in your household, and are eager to watch your child grow from a tentative writer to a bold and unapologetic one, feel free to browse my offerings for English and Creative Writing tutoring below!
